Domaine Saint Vincent Brut Methode Champanoise

I’ve already reviewed one delicious sparkling wine from New Mexico, Gruet, for this website.  Domaine Saint Vincent is a second offering from the Gruet family.  I am really not sure why the family felt the need to offer a separate Domaine, seems counterintuitive, but here we have it.  The bottle sells for about $12, which is less than the Gruet.  The wine has a very nice golden yellow color and the bubbles are abundant, if a little large for my tastes.  There is a lot of fresh fruit on the nose, with green and golden apples coming to the forefront.  The palate matches up with the nose nicely, those same apples shining through along with a bit of apricot and a nice clean finish.

I was disappointed the palate didn’t have any nice bready or yeasty flavors that I’m used to in good champagne (or sparkling wine Methode Champanoise for that matter).  All in all though, for $12, it’s a great bottle for casual entertaining.  I can’t imagine anyone around my dinner table complaining about it.  Personally, if I’ve got the cash, I’m still going to pick up the Gruet for a few more dollars, but the Domaine Saint Vincent will definitely do when times are lean.
