Kimball's Farm: Ice Cream and Goats
It’s a cold early spring day in
Connoisseur Jon and his wife Liz had a fistful of gift certificates to Kimball’s Farm in
I remember vividly going to Kimball Farm as a young Connoisseur and getting chastised by my grandfather for making a huge mess of the gargantuan black raspberry and chocolate cone I was enjoying. It may have been dripping down my arm and all over the inside of his station wagon, but what can you do?

We arrived at the converted farmhouse hungry for ice cream and mini-golf. Unfortunately we soon discovered that the course was closed because it still had snow and ice all over it from last week’s storm. (I still would have played, but the old guy who guarded the course looked like he meant business.)
After perusing the gift shop filled with pre-antiqued country kitsch, we moved back outside to order our ice cream which Kimball’s Farms proudly makes onsite, very cool. Liz opted for a simple chocolate milk shake, proving once again to be the reasonable one in the group, while Jon and I threw our self-respect to the wind and each ordered a large sundae.

My order was called a Doubledae, consisting of two types of ice cream (I opted for Malted Moo Crunch and Chocolate/Peanut Butter), two toppings (I chose hot fudge and butterscotch), whipped cream, and chopped walnuts.

Jon ordered the classic Banana Split which came with three flavors of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry), hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, whipped cream, nuts, pineapple, and strawberries.

We sat down at an outdoor picnic table next to the goat pen to undertake this Herculean task.

The goats liked to be petted, even though this one wanted to eat my trench coat sleeve.

The ice cream was magnificent, as were the toppings. My favorite was the chocolate/peanut butter ice cream in my sundae; it was rich, sweet, and the peanut butter added just the right counterpoint of salt and savory so as not to be too sickeningly sweet.

Having the advantage of less to consume, I finished first and proceeded to chill with the goats while Jon continued bravely onward.

In the end he too was victorious and we got ourselves back to the car and headed home, stuffed to the gills with delicious ice cream.

I think the goats were the best part, I mean look how happy this little guy is!
