Gabriel Boudier Saffron-Infused Gin

Working in the alcohol industry certainly has its perks. One such perk is that I get to try interesting liquors at deeply discounted prices. I purchased one such bottle of liquor recently. Gabriel Boudier Saffron Infused Gin is from France and is a pink-orange liquor comes in a clear 750ml bottle. I am told that the color of the liquor is not completely from the saffron, but involves some coloring agents as well. The gin itself is quite delicious, if ever so slightly rough. It is quite herbal and the saffron gives a spicy and savory quality.
I scoured my cocktail books looking for something to mix with this savory fire water. I came across a drink called

3 parts gin
Fresh ginger
¾ part simple syrup
¼ part fresh lime juice
½ part ginger beer
½ part passion fruit juice
Orange peel
Muddle the ginger with the gin, simple syrup, and lime juice. Add the ginger beer and passion fruit juice. Shake with ice and serve into chilled martini glass. Garnish with orange peel. The drink was created by Micah Wilder in

The cocktail was wonderful, though I wish I had muddled the fresh ginger a bit more to bring out the flavor. I also think a little experimentation with the proportion of lime juice and ginger beer would yield better results. The drink really benefited from the saffron infusion, adding liveliness to what I believe otherwise would have been a bit too herbaceous and floral.

Gabriel Boudier Saffron Infused Gin is a great specialty liquor to have stocked for the adventurous bartender. Next, I think I’ll be experimenting with this gin and green chartreuse.
