Four Burgers

I ran into my friend Todd in Central Square, Cambridge. We were both jonesing for some lunch, so Todd recommended eating at a burger joint called Four Burgers. I was up for anything, and so in we went. The restaurant has a very unique idea that some would call minimalist. There are four different burgers on the menu, as well as a dog and a special burger of the day. Aside from fries and soft drinks, that's the menu. I liked this idea. Too many restaurants are out of their element these days. Go to Pizza Hut and order pasta. Go to Dunkin’ Donuts and get a chicken parmesan flatbread sandwich. Go to Starbucks and get a spinach wrap. It doesn't make sense. Four Burgers knows what they do, and in my opinion, they do it well, though I do have 3 more burgers to try.
I walked up to the counter and ordered the standard cheeseburger. I had my choice of cheese (I chose Vermont Cheddar) and also had the option of wheat or white (white), single or double (double) and bacon or no bacon (...) as well as regular or sweet potato fries. After a couple minutes, our cashier brought out the burgers, and holy cow on a plate! My burger towered on the plate with a mound of sweet potato fries and a couple pickle slices, like a beef monolith. I asked for medium rare, and could tell just by looking that the beef was perfectly cooked and still bleeding. I wrapped my greedy hands around the sandwich and sunk my teeth into the most flavorful burger I've had in a long time. It was juicy and bursting with fresh beefy flavor. The cheese and bacon actually were second fiddle compared to the beef, and that is saying something. Todd informed me that all the beef is fresh the morning of, and ground that morning as well. I may never be able to eat a burger elsewhere. I didn't even add condiments to my burger. It was that juicy and delicious. The sweet potato fries were all hand cut and fried in individual batches to maintain freshness. Delicious is all I can say. The other burgers on the menu were a veggie burger, a salmon burger, and a turkey burger. I am interested to see what these are like, but if they are even close to the quality of the regular burger, they would be worth a taste. The burger special was a Bison burger. I bet that's pretty darn tasty too.
In retrospect, Four Burgers has hands-down the best burger in Boston and that is saying a lot. Mr. Bartley’s makes a great burger, as does O'Sullivan’s, but this burger is at the top of my list.
