The Chocolat 24 pack by Dolfin

Jenny picked these up for me at Savenor's, a local gourmet grocery store on Charles Street in Boston. She had thoroughly enjoyed Dolfin's experimental and surprising flavored chocolates in the past and wanted to share the joy with me. So, with glasses of ice cold club soda to cleanse the palate between flavors, we went to work. The pack contained two each of the following:

Noir 88 –  Dark Chocolate. Intensely cocoaey, at 88%, the flavor hints of espresso.

Earl Grey – Devine, subtle bergamot hints, amazing. Earl Grey tea should be used more often as a flavoring agent in sophisticated sweets.

Au Lait – Milk chocolate, caramelly, awesome. This is the way milk chocolate should be made.

Lait Cannelle – Milk chocolate, cinnamon, not overpowering, very warming and pleasant.

Orange – Dark Chocolate, barely a trace of orange flavor, very disappointing, this has been done by lesser chocolatiers a million times better.

Café Lait – Milk Chocolate, nutty coffee, tastes like instant, slight hint of cardamom. Interesting choice pairing coffee with milk chocolate.

Noir Anis – Dark Chocolate, Actual Aniseed, quite delicious, would go great with espresso.

Noir Nougatine -  Dark Chocolate, a few crunchy bits, sadly little actual flavor of the supposed caramelized nuts within.

Noir 70% -  Dark Chocolate. Less powdery than the 88, smoother, more palatable for a non-dark-chocolohlic like myself, still very dark, would pair well with coffee or a rich red wine.

Citron – Dark Chocolate, citrus peel done right. Pleasant aftertaste of lemon zest.

Noir Cumin – Dark Chocolate, weird, dusty tasting, like eating a very old book… made of chocolate. Undoubtedly cumin, just tastes like very old cumin.

Noir Gingembre – Dark Chocolate. Warming heat of ginger, goes brilliantly with the dark chocolate. No noticeable chunks of ginger, a pleasant change of pace from usual gingered chocolates.

Enjoy: Earl Grey, Noir Anis, and Noir Gingembre

Avoid: Orange, Noir Nougatine, and Noir Cumin (it tasted like armpits and books)

Overall: A splendid collections of chocolatey confectionary. Seek out The Chocolat 24 pack by Dolfin.
