Dirty Potato Chips Mesquite BBQ

The “Dirty” brand of potato chips has always intrigued me.  They claim to kettle cook their chips in a cholesterol free peanut oil blend, which is supposed to create a crunchier, tastier potato chip.  The brand is all fancy with no preservatives, hydrogenated oil, trans fats, or artificial sweeteners, blah blah blah.  This is all, of course, very exciting and well to do, but how to chips taste?   Well, the Mesquite BBQ flavor is undeniably delicious.  The best party about the flavor is the strong smokiness.  That being said, I’ve certainly had better BBQ chips.  These chips could use more spice and a deeper flavor profile in general.  They are, as they claim, crunchy; however, I have had a crunchier kettle cooked chip.  I am going to say that, in general, these chips are good but not great.  They seem to be a happy middle of the road chip:  not too crispy, not too flavorful, not too spicy.  In the great battle between the plain and the flavor filled these chips fall right in the middle.  So if you need some balance in your life and you feel like potato chips would help with that “Dirty” brand is definitely the way to go.
