Cupcake Café

Every once in a while you need a break from the monotonous office work.  Today was no different, and, since I’ve had an ongoing craving for a cupcake, when my co-worker offered to make a small trip up to Cupcake Café I was all for it.  Cupcake Café is famous for their beautifully decorated cupcakes and delicious butter-cream icing.  Having never seen one of their cupcakes in person, nor tasted the sweet butter-cream topping I waited in eager anticipation of my colleague’s return.  She returned, after a fashion, with a box full of gorgeously crafted cupcakes.  Each had a flower, or two or three, on the top in colors of blue, purple, pink, and yellow.  Each cupcake seemed to me a work of art.  But how do they taste?  I decided to take the finger-dipping approach.  I took a bit of the frosting on the tip of my pinky and began my tasting.  The butter-cream frosting is truly filled with delectable butter flavor.  It is also not too sweet, which I find quite refreshing.  The frosting tastes much more like something grandma used to make than something mom used to get out of a box, if you know what I mean.  The frosting layer was also not too thick, providing just enough moisture and lightness to balance out the cake.  The cake itself had a very nice flavor to it, not overpowering in the least.  There was just a hint of lemon in the yellow cake that made up base of my dessert.  The cake itself is also quite generous in proportion, the cupcake wrapper being both wide and deep.  The cake was a little dense for me; I prefer my cupcakes to be made of more angel food style cake so that I can image I am eating a sweet cloud when I bite into it.  I figure at $3.50 a cake it the experience is well worth it.
