Castelluccio Le More Rosso 2004

With my busy schedule, it has been harder and harder to make time for the occasional romantic evening at home with my girlfriend, Jenny. But I found myself in the fortuitous position of arranging such a tryst this past week. Not one to let an opportunity for romance pass me by, I shuffled off to my local Wino Mart and picked up a bottle of Castelluccio Le More Rosso 2004. This Italian red wine is made with Sangiovese grapes and bottled by Azienda Agricola Castelluccio in Modigliana, Italy. For twenty dollars, I was hoping this would be a good find.

The Le More Rosso pours a very dark reddish-purple and smells extraordinary with a rich, fruity, and slightly alcoholic nose. The latter element isn’t surprising considering the 13% ABV the bottle boasts. The flavor is exceptional, mouthwateringly fruity with succulent plum and strawberry notes. There is an undeniable bittersweet characteristic in this wine, where it starts sweet with dark berry flavors, and gently slides to a refreshing bitter and tannic finish.

The Castelluccio Le More Rosso 2004 was a pleasantly surprising find and was highly enjoyable to drink with the one I love. It pairs very well with the peppered salami, farmer’s cheese, and multigrain wheat crackers we had this magnificent red with. I would actively seek out this wine again, whether for a night of romance, or a classy dinner with friends.
