Connoisseur Jon's Hamburger Cake

Elizabeth and I decided to make a hamburger cake for my older brother’s birthday.  I don’t really know why, but it seemed like a great idea, and it was pretty easy to execute due to a few cheats that we used in the process.

You will need:

1 box yellow cake mix (plus whatever ingredients you need to make the mix)

1 box brownie mix (plus whatever ingredients you need to make the mix)

A lot of confectioner’s sugar

1 stick butter

1 vanilla bean

Water

Yellow, red and green food coloring

Sesame seeds

2 9-inch round pans

1 medium-shallow metal bowl that will make a burger top 9 inches wide.

Make the cake mix and pour it half into the bowl and half into one round pan.

Make the brownie mix and pour it into the round pan.  We had brownie mix left over and made an additional pan of brownies.

Bake the cakes and brownies according to directions on the box and then cool.

Use the butter, confectioner’s sugar, vanilla bean, and water to make extra thick butter cream frosting.  Separate out portions and color them yellow, green, red, and tan.

Flatten out the colored icings, except for the tan, on silicone pads, and refrigerate until firm.

Use the tan icing to frost the round cake, then top that with the round brownie, unfrosted.  Take out the firm, flat icing and cut the red into the shape of tomato slices, the yellow into the cheese slice, and the green into lettuce.  Design your burger.

Put bowl-shaped cake on top of this, allowing some of the frosting toppings to be seen.  Frost the dome cake with tan icing and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

EAT!
