Boca Java Maple Bacon Morning Coffee

Imagine the face of a five year old child as he walks down the stairs on Christmas morning to see a tree surrounded by presents….that’s the face I had on when my co-worker told me about Boca Java Maple Bacon Morning Coffee.  This is brilliant!  Fatty smokey bacon + sugary lip smacking maple syrup + caffeinated heavenly coffee!  My mouth salivates just thinking about it.  This coffee came highly recommended by my co-worker and so the next step was to order a bag for the office.

Before the order was placed, my co-worker alerted me to a special that Boca Java (an online purveyor of coffee) was running for a couple days.  Basically 4 bags of coffee, shipped for free, for a ridiculously cheap price.  I went online, selected my coffees (including the highly recommended bacon coffee), and placed my order.  But hold on a moment, my order couldn’t be processed because I hadn’t clicked the box agreeing to their terms and conditions.  Well lets see what’s in these terms and conditions, shall we…….by purchasing the cheap coffee you are joining a coffee club and will be shipped four more bags ever 4 to 6 weeks at the full price, also you agree to play shipping and handling.  What?!?!?!?  This is completely ridiculous and horribly misleading advertising (especially the free shipping part).  This was the beginning of the downfall.

My co-worker was ordering some coffee for herself so she went ahead and ordered a bag of Bacon Maple Morning for the office.  We brewed up a pot once it arrived and I was very excited for my hot cup of Bacon Maple Joe.  The coffee beans smelled wonderful in the bag, but when brewed the aroma didn’t waft throughout the room as I expect from a good coffee.  On tasting I was whole-heartedly disappointed.  There is no bacon flavor; the only reason one might taste some hint of bacon is because it is in the name of the coffee and your mind is fooled into it.  There is some maple, by which I mean a little residual sweetness, but that is all.  It is a light coffee, but lacks the underlining structure a light brew needs to be interesting.  It is a sad, sad day for lovers of coffee and bacon both.  My only encouragement comes from the fact that I got to review it here first so the rest of you don’t have to ride the same emotional rollercoaster I have.
